My attention became focused when guitarist Josh Brothers began to throw down an aftershock of explosive melodic tunes. I immediately jumped off my barstool and headed for the stage. An immediate nod of heads swept throughout the crowd as Brothers’ performed. And, as Under The Influence played on, more and more people approached the stage.. And the head nodding became head banging.
Known to turn heads in every direction but straight, Under The Influence takes the stage and destroys it. Local to Gainesville, Florida, this 4 piece hard-rock group has just formed some months ago, and has already been signed with MT records. UTI is now touring in parts of Florida; hitting up big cities like Jacksonville and Orlando. Just recently, they played Gainesville at the Brick City Music Hall with GettenDeep, Odlaw, and Grey Goose. The show received headlines in one of Gainesville’s publications as “Not one to miss!” Under The Influence played third in the show’s lineup, and people were almost rushing the stage to get closer.
Introducing the boys of Under The Influence: Lou Neumann, lead vocalist and lyrics. His voice sends chills through every inch of my body as melodic and soft, turns to aggressive and hard-hitting. Josh Brothers, bass guitar and vocals, has an amazing talent providing rhythmic pulses that drive the band into full dynamism. I would call his playing ‘the attitude’ of UTI. Chris Senter, guitar, brings innovation and creativity to the stage, using such tools as a drill on his guitar, a crowd favorite. Leon Green, drums; his distinctive style hardly needs introduction, as he finalizes UTI’s infamous sound.
UTI has brought in the new year with a slap in the face. A wake up call rather - and with new songs, lyrics and ideas, the sting has only just begun.
