The new Funeral for a Friend album is here. The hype this band has received can only allow a letdown. They have been pushed so much onto using older songs that were out in Europe forever. That will all change with their new record called Hours
Hours takes FFAF to the next level. They seem to have grown after being on tour with such varied acts as Taking Back Sunday, Snoop Dogg, and Linkin Park. There isn’t any rapping on this record but there are definitely melody lines throughout it. They seem to not want to scream as much and it serves them well.
Terry Date produced this record and it seems he loves to take bands to the next level. Terry produced the Deftones album "White Pony" and now with FFAF's Hours he does it again. He pushed this band to the limit and it shows.
There are many good to great songs on this album. "All the Rage" is a great song to start off the album. "Streetcar's" bass line is reminiscent of old British metal bands and the chorus is meant to be a sing along. "Recovery" is another great song as is "Roses for the Dead" which has breakdowns but no screaming.
This album features ballads throughout. It seems FFAF wants to take it to the next level. The major hit will most likely be "Hospitality"; when that hits the airwaves they will go from small venues to major venues and the girls will swoon. "History" and "Sonny" are other ballads featured on this record. They seem to show more maturity then anyone could expect and they also realized their audience has grown too.
FFAF have matured a lot on this record. They also have grown lyrically and through this they can push themselves even higher. FFAF is poised to rock the US now. This record should be in everyone’s collection because it is that damn good.
