Darkest Hour: Undoing Ruin
Reviewed by: Avery Salamon

Darkest Hour have made a mighty return with Undoing Ruin. Many people did not think they could even get any better, but they have and with the mighty Devin Townsend involved you can't get much better. Their is a dichotomy to this record, love and politics, and they play both up to an amazing level.

The album grows stronger as it goes on and on. The first 4 songs on the album have more to do with love than politics. The first song "With a Thousand Words to Say But One" seems to be dealing with relationship problems and the fact that it is hard to say words. In "Convalescence" you can't seem to stop him and what he wants as he convinces himself how strong he is and how you cant hurt him.

"Pathos" seems to be the split song in the record. It is an acoustic track placed between the love and the politics on this record. This is where the build up of the first four songs truly takes place. After the excellent songs to begin with the album gets amazing.

The political part of the album deals with issues that have arisen due to this governments issues. I tend to agree with what Darkest Hour has to say and if you don't the music can move you just as well. Here the vocals become gravely even more then they were before yet you can still clearly understand them.

With the last six songs on the record all they are really asking is that we open our eyes, grow and fight for what we believe in. Whether it be on tracks like "Low" where they challenge people to figure out if we really are that easily deceived or "These Fevered Times" where they truly pose the question is anything truly as it seems.

Devin Townsend did this for Lamb of God now he has done it for Darkest Hour. What do I mean, well if Ozzfest didn't get your attention then this Devin produced record will. Darkest Hour have crafted one of the best records of the year and with it they have pushed all metalcore to a new level. Darkest Hour is back with a vengeance and now you will fear what is to come from them next. Catch them on tour now.
