Chevelle: This Type of Thinking Could Do Us In
Reviewed by: Avery Salamon

Chevelle have returned with a follow up to their highly acclaimed album “wonder what’s next” with the new album “this type of thinking could do us in”. They have still got the Tool sound. Chevelle have perfected a formula and it is tried and true and works well for these 3 brothers on this record.

This album is one that will grow on you listen to listen. The single Vitamin R isn’t the most ambitious track on the album but was a good way to bring the band back to the public. Breach Birth and Another Know It All are great tracks on this record and follow the Chevelle formula. Emotional Drought is another great song with a pre chorus that is eerily reminiscent of tool.

Chevelle does get a bit ambitious on this record too. Still running has a Deftones feel but isn’t the most ambitious track. They have two slow songs or ballads whatever you may call them. They are entitled Panic Prone and Bend the Bracket. These two songs are both good and show a more mature side to Chevelle.

This album sounds more like Tool then their last record. At the same time it is a growing point for them with the new chances taken in expanding their sound. The album uses Chevelle’s tried and true formula and solidifies their sound. This record gets better with each repeated spin.
