Boys Night Out: Trainwreck
Reviewed by: Lena Rybak

Canadian natives Boys Night Out are back with their sophomore album, Trainwreck  and this time they have grown up. The last time we heard from Boys Night Out, they were on the Warped Tour and with only five members. The new Boys Night Out now has a new member, a girl, Kara Dupuy to be more exact. Kara joins Boys Night Out as a synthesizer player and backup vocals.

Since the release of the 2003 debut, Make Yourself Sick, Boys Night Out have had some time to figure out what they want to do with their music. Although their first album was fun for them to make, it was also extremely easy. So with a new member and new ideas, the “Boys” embarked on a new challenge.

The majority of the album was written by guitarist Jeff Davis and singer Connor Lovat-Fraser. The band hit the studio in 2005 with producer, Machine. Davis and Lovat-Fraser had a lot of ideas for the album, mostly telling a tale of love, murder, mental anguish, and creative reawakening. The album begins with “Introducing”, an eerie introduction of a physician diagnosing a patient. The album continues as you follow the patient through a mental and physical collapse. The song titles allow you to see where the patient in their mind, with titles like “Dreaming”, “Waking”, “Medicating”, and many others, all ending with –ing. The collapse of the patient finally happens in “Purging” and “Relapsing” which features vocals from Dupuy. If it’s the classic sound of Boys Night Out that you seek, don’t worry because you can still find it in songs like “Medicating”. The album is definitely worth getting
