Black Label Society: Mafia
Reviewed by: Avery Salamon

Zakk Wylde and Black Label Society have returned and the hangover is gone. Zakk begins to rip this CD up right off the bat. “MAFIA” is a return to form for BLS. No longer does this CD have piano throughout although some songs do it isn’t prevalent.

“Fire it Up” and “What’s in You” start CD off to a good start. “Suicide Messiah” is a great track and displays Zakk at his best. He plays blues type metal and creates probably one if not the best songs on the record.

“Forever Down” starts with a piano introduction and “In This River” is an amazing ballad. It seems like Zakk didn’t want to leave the hangover all behind. When you think BLS is on full hangover the CD charges back with “You must be blind”. The next couple of songs are alright. The CD ends off with a couple of great tracks. “ Been a long time” is a great rocker and “Dirt on the Grave” is a great ballad by which to close the CD.

Although this CD isn’t all amazing with enough stand out tracks it is a MUST BUY. BLS’s return with “Mafia” and with that they kick all of metals collective ass. I can’t wait to hear them on OZZFEST this summer.
