Amon Amarth have returned with another epic tale on their new album “fate of norms”. This album is another solid effort and a great follow up to “versus the world”. This is story of conquest and revenge. The songs are a bit similar but with many little nuances in each. The vocal growls in each song are great and although the range is non- existent the songs still ride strong.
The song that starts the album “An ancient sign of a coming storm” is amazing and begins with an excellent riff the album grows from there into a spoken word that leads into the song “where death seems to dwell”. The band references ancient sailors lore with the statement “red in the morning sailors warning”.
Another strong track is “beheading of a king” which is the beginning of the end for the Danes. In the song “Arson” they begin with fire and burning sounds and end it with the same. The theme of revenge begins in “arson” and ends in “once sealed in blood” which is the album closer.
Will the next record follow this story or being another chapter in the Amon Amarth catalog? They are one of the most consistent bands out there now and if you value consistent metal check this band out. This band should become even bigger with this release.
